Holding your neurovasculars

Holding your neurovasculars

Holding your neurovascular points relieves stress and anxiety. They are the reflex points between the meridian and nervous system and can be used to reprogram our emotional responses to stress and trauma. When we get overwhelmed, we commonly put our hands to our forehead, which is why they are also known as the "Oh my God" points. You can do this for yourself anywhere but it's nice to lie down and use pillows to hold up your elbows. Place the palms of your hands gently on your forehead so that the tips of your fingers are touching and the base of your palm is over your temples. You are using the electromagnetic energy in your hand to pull the blood back into the frontal lobes of your brain, taking it from the more primal area that is activated when you are stressed out or overwhelmed. Keep your hands here until you feel better. You also need to tell yourself the story of what is causing you stress. Play the event or situation in your head - go through all the details, and you will probably find you can't get through the entire story because your energy will have shifted to a more intellectual mode and the problem won't seem as bad. I do it in the bath a lot. It's also very nice to do this for someone - you can have her lie in front of or on your lap and, while you hold her neurovascular points, have her tell you the story of what is causing her anxiety. The longer you hold her points the more the stress will fade. By telling the story while holding the neurovascular points you also are changing your emotional habits or responses - you are training the mind not to react stressfully to the situation.
