You are what you eat

You are what you eat

This statement just is. The food and energy we take into our body fuels us on more than just physical levels. Putting crap into our bodies has somehow become acceptable and that in itself is unacceptable. The good news is that it's not so hard to change.

Your skin gets most of its nourishment from the inside; therefore, your diet has a direct relationship to your appearance. Eating lots of fruits, vegetables and protein every day will increase your natural tendency towards a healthy, youthful appearance. Be wary - most restaurants serve double or triple the standard individual helping, so don't finish your plate and don't begin serving these super-size portions at home. Avoid frozen, processed or fast foods. Eat foods that are alive, fresh and natural. Say NO to genetically modified foods. I highly recommend being a full-time vegetarian but if that feels like too much for you, at least try it part time and cut down on meat and fish.

Vegetarianism
Being a vegetarian in no way means diminishing the pleasure of eating or limiting the variety of your food experiences. All health food stores and most commercial supermarkets carry meat alternative products and you'd be very surprised how tasty they are!

I'm big on vegetarianism because of the horrible and inhumane treatment of all animals in "factory farms". "Free range" can be suspect as well because all free range means is that there has to be a specified doorway for the animals to get out of the pen. Plus, guidelines allow for a door that is so crazy small that not many chickens even get out because they are so packed in or kept in cages. I don't mean to say all free range farms are this way but it's something to be aware of - know where your food comes from. There also is a health issue; the food animals are given is filled with hormones, antibiotics and pesticides, that you later ingest. Unfortunately, most animals live a grief-stricken and abusive life in factory farms and this is passed on energetically to you; I don't want to eat that energy, that's for sure. If you're making the effort to change your life to a more positive lifestyle, keep these things in mind:

  • Red meat and poultry is filled with numerous pesticides, antibiotics and hormones. If you have to eat it, make sure it's organic.
  • Fish do have feelings and pigs, cows and chickens have intricate family relationships and feel great sorrow in losing each other. The treatment of these animals is horrifying. These animals live in fear and grief their entire lives and who wants to support that?
  • Stopping or lowering your intake of meat helps the environment because factory farms use up so much energy. Plus, the run-off water is contaminated and is absorbed back into the earth and back into our water system.
